This project was created by a team of students at the University of Technology of Pereira in Columbia. The package sorting system was created as a part of the curriculum for the Mechatronic Engineering program, and makes use of conveyers, vision recognition cameras, and InduSoft Web Studio Educational HMI software.
The project is designed to sort packages based on automated visual recognition of packaging images. A package is placed on the conveyer, and the camera records the image for sorting. Based upon the logo, the system will then push the package to the appropriate channel. This system can be fully visualized and controlled from the InduSoft Web Studio application.
The application primarily communicates with the Siemens PLC using the MPI protocol, which is supported by a native driver in InduSoft Web Studio.
