InduSoft drivers are built in as part of the core functionality, and the use of OPC is optional. OPC is still a popular and useful method for connecting your SCADA software to PLCs, controllers, and other devices. Here is a step-by-step guide to connecting IWS to an OPC server.
To begin, install and register the OPC server software. This SCADA software is compatible with OPC DA, HDA, UA and .NET 3.0, however this tutorial explores OPC DA/HDA configurations.
In the configuration menu, choose your setting, and add tags in the OPC server. When this is finished, save the configuration, and open your project.
On the Home tab in the development environment, you will find an option for “import wizard.” Open it, and once it is open, select OPC Server Database, and then click Next. Here you will have the option of whether or not you want to import duplicate tags. Determine whether or you want to replace duplicate tags, or simply choose “Do not import.”
The server may be local or remote. Choose the appropriate option. For a remote server, type in the IP address (or the host name) of the remote computer. Using the “Identifier”, choose the OPC server you want to import from. There is also an option to select the “branch” to browse within the server. Users can choose to add “OPC_” to the beginning of every imported tag.
After selecting the appropriate options, click “Next”, where you will have the option to check or uncheck tags, or filter them for import. (See OPC import filter). After this step is completed, click “Finish.” The wizard will have automatically added your imported tags to the tag database and added OPC worksheet to the project
