Sales for the global packaging market are expected to top 1 trillion USD by 2018. As packaging systems and conveyor technology improves, manufacturers are adding more automation to increase profits and improve efficiency on packaging lines. The University of Technology of Pereira in Columbia recently developed a student application that showcases their ability to design and implement in-demand technology like advanced package sorting systems.
The project is designed to sort packages based on automated visual recognition of packaging images. A package is placed on the conveyer, and the camera records the image for sorting. Based upon the logo, the system will then push the package to the appropriate channel. This system can be fully visualized and controlled from the InduSoft Web Studio application.
