Most on or off-road vehicles include computers that both automate critical vehicle functions and allow operators to receive diagnostics that help offer predictive and necessary maintenance or correct problems that have occurred within the vehicle. This is true for cars, all-terrain vehicles, motorized boats, automated vehicles and drones, and even some vehicles designed for specific operations such as mining or agriculture.
Unfortunately, there are relatively few available interfaces for these vehicles. Most must be developed through traditional SCADA/HMI software. One InduSoft Web Studio user even developed a custom HMI dashboard for his drag racing vehicle.
For this week’s Symbol of the Week, we offer a way to get started developing a dashboard for any type vehicle. This in-cab dashboard can be used in equipment for mining, logging, agriculture, or even mass transit. It’s ideal for an in-vehicle embedded operating system like Windows Embedded. Features can include multi-touch capabilities, or automatic storage of process data in the cloud.
This symbol features indicators for fuel levels and temperature, but can be modified to show any critical data points required for efficient vehicle function.
Properties: LabelRPM, LabelSpeed, MaxRPM, MaxSpeed, MinRPM, MinSpeed, TagFuel, TagRPM, TagSpeed, TagTemperature
Description: This symbol was created for use on an embedded computer mounted on the dash of construction equipment, mining equipment, agriculture, or other vehicles that need to show information.
- This symbol contains only native IWS objects.
- Please let us know if we can modify this symbol to suit your needs
Ideas for improvement:
- Add different colors
- Add check engine, over temperature, and other icons
Copy the .sym file into your Symbol folder of where InduSoft Web Studio is installed. This is usually “C:\Program Files (x86)\Wonderware InduSoft Web Studio v8.0\Symbol” or similar. Either create a new folder or copy it into an existing one, such as “Indicators”.
We encourage you to modify and share these symbols with other users. Your symbol might be perfect for someone else, or they might make an ideal symbol for you. We want your feedback, so tell us what symbols you want us to create for the next “Symbol of the week”! Tell us in this short survey
